Joining vimeo has been one of the most important steps I have taken as a videographer, this video is why I joined: “Its Your Ride”. ”It’s Your Ride” captures the way I feel about biking and the freedom it offers anyone who is willing to give it a chance. I’ve been wanting to capture that feeling with some of my own work and finally got the chance with this project. While my project doesn’t compare with the film referenced above, I was very happy to collaborate with Calivintage and PUBLIC bikes and happy with the way the video turned out.
We shot it on a couple Saturdays in Oakland and San Francisco. Dan from PUBLIC let us borrow his Xtracycle, which is essentially an extra long bicycle with a high weight capacity and enabled us to accomplish ride along shots without much complication. With Brendan (Erin’s partner) steering and pedaling the Xtracycle, I sat backwards on the back while shooting. Brendan was a fearless driver, weaving in an out of traffic and people which made for some super fun shooting.

I ended up going with one lens, the 24-105 f4, mainly because of its versatility. I didn’t want to spend a lot of time re-balancing the glidecam or pausing the action, I just wanted the shoot to be long slow bike ride. I also went with the 24-105 because I didn’t need anything super fast, as I was using a handheld glidecam and focus pulling was out of the question without a follow focus or remote focus puller. I spent most of my time at 24mm, which helped smooth out some of the large shakes and bumps.
I want to give a huge thanks to Calivintage, PUBLIC bikes and Brendan. PUBLIC for being an amazing company, with a great mission and great people behind it. Calivintage for being an incredible collaborator, talented actress and blogger. Brendan for lugging my ass all over the bay area!
I also wanted to share a longer cut as I think it is paced a bit better. Thanks for watching!
